Our History

Founded in March 1995, Outdoor Adventures is a Michigan-based company dedicated to serving families of all shapes and sizes. We have worked hard to provide some of the finest camping resorts anywhere. Continue reading for a timeline of our growth over the years.

  • 1995
Saginaw Bay Resort - Standish, MI
Formerly H&R Campground, the original property had just 80 campsites, a store, bathhouse and a very small pavilion. As you can see when you navigate to the Saginaw Bay Resort section of our website, what started as very humble beginnings has become one of the finest family camping resorts around.
  • 1996
    Wilderness Resort - Omer, MI
Once known as Sunshine Valley Campground, this resort lives up to its current name – it is truly a wilderness retreat. If your family wants to get in touch with nature, this is your place. Not shy on amenities, Wilderness is sure to please everyone in the family. Just check the Wilderness Resort page on this website and you will see why.
  • 1998
Rifle River Resort — Sterling, MI
Situated right on the bank of the Rifle River, we turned the former Cedar Springs Campground into a great place for water sports enthusiasts. Acquiring a canoe livery business along with the property, we have canoes to rent and shuttle buses for transportation to the drop-off locations, so you can float back to the resort. Take a look at the Rifle River Resort pages to see all the fun you will have!
  • 1999
Lake of the North Resort — West Branch, MI
Once known as Lake George Campground, this resort is located on Lake George – a 200-acre, nearly 100 foot deep, all sports lake. This resort has a large private beach and boat docks. You can't help but have fun when you're with us! See the Lake of the North section of this website for all the services, amenities and fun you will enjoy.
  • 2001
Guest Service Center "Home Office" — Bay City, MI
Putting our main office building more centrally in the state allows us to serve you better. See our contact page for office hours, telephone numbers, etc.
  • 2001
Lake Shore Resort — Davison, MI
The addition of the former Smoke Rise Resort fulfilled our need for a location closer to the Detroit Metro Area. Accustomed to our high quality of facilities and service over the years, many of our campers asked us to get a location closer to their “down state” homes. Only minutes from M-23, I-75, M-15 or M-24, and just 5 miles north of I-69 (making it easy to avoid traffic), the campground was an immediate hit! Look at the Lake Shore Resort section of the website and be amazed at everything this resort offers.
  • 2003
Lake Shore’s “North Shore Property” — Davison, MI
Acquisition of property on the north side of the lake more than doubled our ability to meet the high demand put on this resort. We are continually adding more to this location.
  • 2011
Lake Shore Resort's "Water Fun Zone" Waterpark— Davison, MI
Opened in July 2011 the "Water Fun Zone" Water Park was an immediate hit. While camping or renting a cabin, use of the water park is free of charge. Enjoy a relaxing float around the Lazy River or have a great time in the wading / splash pool, pool or hot hub.
  • 2013
Mount Pleasant Resort — Mount Pleasant, MI
Located in Mount Pleasant, just a few minutes off of M-20 and minutes away from both Central Michigan University and Soaring Eagle Casino, this resort is a guest favorite. Boasting all full hook-up, 50amp, pull-through campsites, a lake, a dog park, and much more, you won't want to miss an opportunity to visit!
  • 2014
Grand Haven Resort — Grand Haven, MI
Grand Haven, Michigan, is one of the most popular tourist destinations, and we are excited to be part of the fun! Formerly known as Jellystone Campground and Grand Haven Campground, the resort is full of beautiful trees and walking paths, a large playground, two pools, a go cart track, and much more. We are happy to have added this gem to our family.
  • 2015
Home Office — Bay City, MI
The home office outgrew our longtime home on Henry Street in Bay City. We purchased the Landmark Building, affectionately known by locals as the “Kresge Building,” in downtown Bay City. We’ve grown our office space and our capacity to serve you!
  • 2016
    Kalamazoo Resort — Kalamazoo, MI
A great opportunity arose for us to purchase the former Spring Lake Resort in Kalamazoo, Michigan! It is now known as Outdoor Adventures Kalamazoo Resort and is open to guests. With three spring-fed lakes, a fishing pond, acres of lush greenery, wildlife, and more, this resort is a welcome addition to the Outdoor Adventures family!
  • 2020
Benjamin's Beaver Creek Resort - Gaylord, MI
Expanding our network in northern Michigan has been a goal for a while, and we are finally there! Gaylord is just a short drive to some of Michigan's most popular destinations, such as Mackinaw City, Traverse City and Petoskey. With a 300' outdoor water slide and situated right on The Natural Golf Course plus snowmobile rentals and trails galore, we couldn't be more excited to add this resort to our family.
